The Mystery of Science is operated by Quest Tutorial, Inc. This policy explains what information our website and Shopify store collect, how it is used, and the choices you have. Questions or privacy requests? Email info@themysteryofscience.com.

Information we collect

  • Orders: Your name, email address, billing and shipping addresses, products purchased, and any phone number you provide at checkout. Shopify and payment providers process payment details. We use order and payment information to manage purchases, shipping, returns, and refunds.
  • Customer accounts: Your email address, account preferences, and order history when you choose to use an account.
  • Teaching emails: Your first name and email address when you sign up for Teaching the Curiosities of Creation, along with your subscription preferences.
  • Messages: Information you include when you contact us.
  • Website activity: Technical information such as your IP address, browser, device, pages and products viewed, cart activity, and how you use the website. Shopify and the tools supporting the store collect some of this information automatically through cookies and similar technologies.

How we use information

  • Process orders and payments, ship materials, and handle returns or refunds.
  • Send order, shipping, account, and service messages.
  • Send teaching emails when you have opted in, and manage your subscription choices.
  • Answer questions and provide customer support.
  • Protect the store against fraud, measure website use, and improve the shopping experience.
  • Maintain business records, meet legal obligations, and respond to valid legal requests.

Buying curriculum or creating an account is separate from choosing to receive teaching emails.

Cookies and website tools

Cookies and similar technologies help the cart and checkout work, keep the store secure, remember preferences, and measure website use. Where enabled, they also support personalization and advertising. The cookie banner and privacy choices available to you depend on your region and the store's settings. You can manage cookies through your browser and any cookie preferences offered on this site. Blocking some cookies may affect shopping or account features.

Shopify and other service providers

Our store is hosted by Shopify. Shopify collects and processes information about visits and purchases to provide and improve its services. We also share information with providers that help with payment processing, email delivery, shipping, customer support, website measurement, and fraud prevention. For example, the carrier delivering your package, such as USPS or UPS, receives the shipping information it needs.

Shopify and other providers may process information outside the country where you live. Read the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy for more about Shopify's practices.

We use Shopify enhanced services that draw on information about your interactions with our store, other merchants, and Shopify. Shopify uses this information to help protect, grow, and improve businesses and to support services such as personalization and advertising based on activity across stores. This can involve sharing information with Shopify and other parties, including parties in other countries. Shopify is responsible for its processing for these purposes. Learn about your rights and choices in the Shopify Privacy Portal.

We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect our rights or customers, with your permission, or in connection with a business transfer.

Your choices and privacy rights

  • Teaching emails: Use the unsubscribe link in any teaching email to stop receiving them. You may still receive messages about orders or services you requested.
  • Personal information: Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or receive a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or limit certain uses. Contact info@themysteryofscience.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity or an authorized representative's authority. Some information must be retained to meet legal obligations.
  • Questions or complaints: Contact us if you have concerns about how your information is handled. Depending on your region, you may be able to appeal a decision about a privacy request or contact your local privacy regulator. Exercising a privacy right will not result in discriminatory treatment.

Data sharing: In applicable regions, you can opt out of uses considered a sale or sharing of personal information, or targeted advertising, under local privacy law. Visit Your Privacy Choices for the available control and how it applies. Where this regional choice applies, Shopify also honors eligible Global Privacy Control signals for the device and browser used to visit the site. If Shopify can associate that device with a Shopify account, it also applies the opt-out to the account.

For choices concerning Shopify's own processing, visit the Shopify Privacy Portal.

Security and keeping information

Shopify and our service providers support the security of the store, but no system or method of sending information is completely secure. Please avoid including sensitive financial information in ordinary email.

How long we keep information depends on whether it is needed to support your account or orders, provide requested services, maintain required records, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations.

Children and other websites

This store is intended for parents, educators, and other adult purchasers. We do not ask for student information to complete an ordinary store order. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our site, contact us so we can review the request.

Links and videos may take you to, or load content from, other services such as YouTube. Those services have their own privacy practices. Review their policies when using them.

Updates and contact

We may update this policy as the website, services, or legal requirements change. We will update the date above and provide any notice required by law.
